Fifth Annual Carying Place 5K Run/Walk Set for September 22

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, The Carying Place 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sat., September 22, 2012 at Bond Park in Cary, N.C. The fundraising event includes a 5K fun run and a 1-mile walkathon, as well as family friendly activities, food and prizes. Proceeds benefit The Carying Place and help fund programs to prevent homelessness for families.

“We are thankful to the people who have participated in the event during our first four years of this walk,” says Chris Pelnik, event director and president of Pelnik Insurance. “Their support has helped us raise more than $11,000 in previous years to prevent homelessness.”

About the Carying Place: The Carying Place provides short-term housing while teaching life skills to empower them to obtain permanent, independent living. The mission of The Carying Place is to help working families with children:

  • Wake County families who are homeless, “doubled-up” or otherwise inadequately housed, or are in jeopardy of losing their current housing
  • Who are motivated to improve their situation and are willing to work hard at budgeting, time management, setting and attaining goals and housing
